Long Vineyards
long_vineyards_logo.jpg Long Vineyards' family-owned estate winery and vineyards are located in the eastern hills of Napa Valley between Stags Leap and Howell Mountain, on Pritchard Hill, at 800-1100 feet elevation overlooking Lake Hennessey. The Wine Spectator calls Pritchard Hill "the home to profound Cabernets" and "Napa's new Grand Cru." The appellation is "Napa Valley."

All our wines are from single vineyards and are 100% varietal. We have maintained our production level at 4000 cases to allow maximum attention to the production side of grape-growing and wine-making. From our estate: Chardonnay (1200 cases per year); an 'Old Vines' Chardonnay (130 cases in selected years); Cabernet Sauvignon (400-500 cases); Sangiovese-Seghesio Vineyards, Geyserville (60-80 cases).

Long Vineyards has always been an innovator. In 1977, when Bob and Zelma Long started the winery, we produced one of Napa Valley's first barrel-fermented Chardonnays. Since 1978, Long has produced one of California's best 'botrytis' Rieslings; 1979-1993 Cabernet Sauvignon from U.C.Davis Oakville Experimental Vineyard; in 1981 California's first barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc blended with Chardonnay; and in 1992 Napa Valley's first Pinot Grigio.

Our estate vineyard was established in 1967 with Chardonnay planting. Today we grow 12 acres of Chardonnay; three acres of Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 1990; and three acres of late-harvest Johannisberg Riesling planted in 1968.

Long Vineyards' wines emphasize long-term style development from designated single vineyards. The wine-making team of Bob Long, Zelma Long and Sandi Belcher and the wine-growing team headed by John Arns and Phil Freese are among the most experienced and knowledgeable in the industry. Their commitment to continuity and consistency, year after year, has allowed Long Vineyards to perfect the style and quality of each varietal.

Chardonnay, Long Vineyards signature variety, demonstrates most vividly its concept of continuity and consistency - the same grapes, from vines planted on the hillside estate 35 years ago, the same barrel makers, François Frères of Burgundy; and the same winemakers every year. Long Vineyards has meshed the best elements of Burgundian wine-making with California's climate and wine making techniques.
