Chateau Tertre Roteboeuf St. Emilion Grand Cru 2006

BACKGROUND
Le Tertre Roteboeuf is a name that only an ardent Bordeaux aficionado would recognize but my hunch is that is about to change with the release of their monumentally delicious new vintages and a new distributor in the United States. The winery is connected to the private home of the vigneron and is a relatively modest structure compared to the extravagant Chateaux we had previously encountered. Our engaging host, Francois Mitjavile, is also the proprietor and a local legend for his effusive personality and savant-like knowledge of wine techniques and history. Tertre Roteboeuf 2006 is already enchanting featuring a captivating array of flavors (black cherries, fig, balsamic, baking spices and violets) ready to savor tonight through 2026! The silky smooth texture is deftly melded with profound tannins to age gracefully for at least another decade. I rated 97+ points. The quality is absolutely stunning, on par with many of my samples from the hallowed First Growth, but the prices are not (yet) completely insane because production is miniscule, and it is still relatively under-the-radar among all but true cognoscenti. My hunch is that’s about to change as Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate has rated recent vintages 98 – 99 points calling this wine “irresistible” and “a little bit magical.” I agree 100% so jump on the wagon now. - Hal Oates | Porthos President & Founder
